Before building this compendium, Advance Africa looked at the vast array of “best practice” compilations and anthologies out in the field. What we found was that, there does not appear to be any widely accepted criteria or standards of evidence for screening practices and defining them as “best”. The term “Best Practices” has been liberally used to describe a wide range of programs with varying degrees of evidence.
A Program Manager looking at these different programs and practices has no clear way to distinguish the untested, “riskier interventions” from those backed with evidence and experience. A clear distinction has to be made between all the practices and interventions.
