Summary: This document provides guidance on the safe and effective use of a wide range of contraceptive methods, including IUDs, and is the companion guideline to WHO's Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) for Contraceptive Use. Like the MEC, the recommendations are based on systematic reviews of available clinical and epidemiological research and are reached by consensus among the most important organizations working internationally on reproductive health. The document is intended to be used by policy makers, program managers, and the scientific community, and aims to support national programs in the preparation of service delivery guidelines.
